Can the Autostainer and Multistainer Workstations also be operated with the deep load container in the Coverslipper?

Yes, since August 2006, both workstations can be operated with the deep load container. Thus, the covering on the slides will be improved and problems during coverslipping, like the forming of bubbles, will be eliminated. In order to ensure the proper function of the deep load container in the CV/ST combinations, the workstations have to be modified before using the container. A catch plate is already installed and the spacer has to be modified to ensure correct function. Please contact your local Leica service representative for further details. Without prior retrofitting of the instruments, the use of the deep load container will lead to substantial functional problems.

The upper part of the sections on the specimen slides is dried out

  • The stroke of the mounting media may need to be adjusted toward the top of the slide.
  • The volume of mounting media may need to be increased.
  • The solvent level in the xylene bath may not be sufficiently high enough to cover the top of the slides to help with the even dispensing of the mounting media, and is therefore creating bubbles or drying artefact.
  • If the maximum fill level is not sufficient to cover entire specimens on slides, you may need to use the higher load container:

Keep in mind, however, that by default the higher container is compatible only with the stand-alone Leica CV5030. In operation as a workstation (Leica ST5020/CV5030 or ST5010 (Autostainer XL)/CV5030) the higher container is compatible only after corresponding modifications. In this case, please call the Leica Microsystems Service.

How many staining protocols can be programmed?

15 staining protocols can be programmed.

What is the maximum number of steps in a program?

One program can include up to 25 steps.

When using less than five washing stations, is it possible to change the remaining ones into reagent stations?

The first two washing stations can be changed into reagent stations.

Can different protocols be performed simultaneously?

The ST5010 can run different protocols concurrently so long as they are compatible.

How often does the activated carbon filter need to be changed?

Every 3 months.

Why would the gripper not transport a rack to the exit station when it is programed to do so ?

If the exit key is not pressed when taking out a finished rack, the Leica ST5010 is unable to finish processing other racks that require the exit station.

Why has the rack transfer arm stopped during operation?

First make sure that the transfer arm is not obstructed. The most likely causes of this problem are: 1. A reagent container is not properly seated
2. A vessel handle is not properly positioned
3. A lid is left on a reagent container
4. A slide rack is bent When the problem is resolved, the instrument will continue properly.

Can I replace the oven with a reagent station?

No, the oven can be turned off, but not changed into a reagent station.

What steps have to be programmed so that a stained rack will be transferred to the Leica CV5030 Coverlipper?

When the last protocol step in a programmed protocol is the exit station, the rack will automatically transfer to the coverslipper.

Why is a rack stopped in the exit station instead of being transported to the transfer station?

This can occur if: 1. The Leica CV5030 is turned off during the staining process.
2. The cables connecting the Leica ST5010/CV5030 workstation have become loose.
3. The Leica CV5030 is busy or needs attention, e.g. there is still a rack in the bath or the transfer station is occupied with three racks.
