FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

ASP300S
How many cassettes could be processed at one run?

Leica ASP200 S: Approx. 200 (168) cassettes (two metal baskets, each sufficient for 100 cassettes or two microwavable plastic baskets each sufficient for 84 cassettes) Leica ASP300 S: Approx. 300 cassettes (three metal baskets, each sufficient for 100 cassettes or three microwavable plastic baskets each sufficient for 84 cassettes)

How many protocols can be set up?

Up to 15 programs can be saved.

How many protocols can be chosen as favorite programs?

You can select up 5 of your protocols as favorite programs.

Can you modify the finish time while the program is still in progress?

As long as the delay step has not yet been completed the finish time can be changed.

How could the delay be changed to another protocol step?

In the program mode of the menu, press the Edit button and mark the reagent you wish to have as delay step. Press the button Delay on top of the display. The “delay clock” will appear at the chosen station.

How to operate the Extended cleaning program?

Fill an external bottle (13 ext.) with an appropriate cleaning solvent.
When starting the extended cleaning program, the ASP calls on the operator to insert the external bottle after finishing the first two cleaning steps with station bottles 11 and 12. Follow that order by inserting the external bottle with detergent at station 13 ext. and follow the on-screen instructions. The instrument continues the cleaning cycle and informs you afterwards to insert the previous bottle 13. After your confirmation the ASP will complete the cleaning program.

Is it possible to create a custom cleaning program or to change an existing one?

All cleaning programs are predefined and ensure good cleaning results. They can be minimally modified but not renamed, added or deleted.

Is it possible to remotely fill the wax bath?

It is not possible to remotely fill the wax bath. You can fill the wax bath either with solid paraffin, or with liquid wax.

Which fixatives can be used in the Leica ASP300 S/200 S?

Recommended reagents for the fixation step are formalin buffered or unbuffered, and formalin saline. Other reagents may damage some components of the instrument. Never use acetone, benzene or trichlorethane! Fixatives containing mercuric salts, acetic or picric acid will shorten instrument life. If you choose to work with such reagents, it is essential to perform a cleaning cycle which contains multiple water rinses after each use to minimize damage.

What’s the purpose of the anti-reflection clips for the baskets?

The anti-reflection clips prevent reflections affecting the level sensor which could falsely initiate error messages.

How often the activated carbon filter has to be changed?

Every 3 months, unless the ASP is connected to an external fume hood.

Is it possible to connect an exhaust hose on the Leica ASP300 S/200 S?

A pneumatic (PK) hose with an inside diameter of 8 mm and an outside diameter of 10 mm can be connected at the intended junction at the rear side of the ASP. To achieve an effective exhaustion, a low pressure in the external fume hood should be used. However, even with an external connection you have to install an activated carbon filter.
