Our Commitment to Sustainability

Advancing cancer diagnostics responsibly, with the discipline, collaboration, and continuous improvement needed to create lasting impact for patients, customers, and the planet

Leica Biosystems enables approximately 100 million cancer tests each year. Because every diagnostic answer matters, we are building a more responsible and resilient business that supports customers, patients, associates, and the planet. As part of Danaher, our sustainability strategy is built on four pillars: innovating products that improve lives and our planet, building the best team, protecting our environment, and building a sustainable supply chain. These rest on Danaher's Foundational Elements of integrity, compliance and governance. This page covers our environmental pillar.

Climate Action

Turning climate goals into year-over-year progress

Addressing climate change strengthens our resilience and the reliability customers depend on. As part of Danaher’s global science and technology ecosystem, Leica Biosystems brings together deep workflow expertise, operational discipline, and a culture of continuous improvement to make progress where it matters most.

Danaher and Leica Biosystems Climate Goals

We are advancing climate action in support of Danaher's science-based targets, with measurable progress across our operations and value chain. In early 2026, Danaher submitted science-based greenhouse gas emission reduction targets to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for validation, including a long-term target to achieve net-zero value chain emissions no later than 2050. Leica Biosystems is committed to supporting these targets.

EcoVadis

We participate in annual EcoVadis assessments, an independent benchmark of sustainability performance, to identify opportunities for improvement and track progress overtime. Our overall score has improved year over year.

Sustainability in Our Operations

Cleaner energy, less waste

We apply the same discipline that drives quality and reliability across our business to our sustainability work. Through the Danaher Business System (DBS) and kaizen, we use standard work, daily management, and continuous improvement to turn ambition into measurable progress. By improving energy efficiency, expanding renewable energy, and reducing waste across our facilities and supply chain, we are lowering our environmental footprint while strengthening operational performance.

Energy Efficiency in Manufacturing

Every one of our manufacturing sites globally now operates on renewable energy, through a combination of purchased renewable energy, energy attribute certificates, and on-site generation.

Waste Reduction

Our approach begins with minimizing waste at the source, reusing materials wherever possible, and diverting waste away from landfills toward more responsible disposal methods. Between 2019 and 2025, our waste diversion rate increased from 59% to nearly 72%, reflecting stronger recycling practices and expanded use of non-landfill waste solutions. Figures cover non-hazardous waste across our manufacturing sites.

Product Sustainability

Product sustainability is another way we bring innovation to the anatomic pathology workflow, designing with quality, performance, and responsibility in mind.

We integrate environmental considerations into product design, sourcing, R&D, and how we report progress to customers and stakeholders. Central to this is our Product Carbon Footprint program, which measures emissions across the product life cycle in accordance with ISO 14067. In 2026, we expanded the program to additional product lines, giving us broader visibility into portfolio emissions and clearer opportunities to improve.

Better product-level carbon data also helps customers understand environmental impact and make more informed decisions as they advance their own sustainability goals. Product carbon footprint figures are estimates based on a combination of primary and secondary data and are intended to support, not replace, customers' own reporting.

Supply Chain Sustainability

Many sustainability challenges cannot be solved in isolation. We work with suppliers, partners, and Danaher colleagues to strengthen responsible practices across the value chain.

We assess our largest direct material suppliers through EcoVadis, a recognized rating platform covering environmental impact, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. These assessments improve transparency, surface risks, and guide where we focus supplier engagement to advance performance and our long-term decarbonization goals.

A Shared Commitment

Across our organization, we work to reduce our environmental impact, operate responsibly, and support our mission of advancing cancer diagnostics and improving lives. Leica Biosystems is proud to be part of Danaher and align with Danaher’s Sustainability Policies. Read more about Danaher’s sustainability strategy and progress here.
