p504sとしても知られるAlpha-Methylacyl-CoA Racemase(AMACR)は、ミトコンドリアとペルオキシソームの酵素で、胆汁酸生合成と分岐鎖脂肪酸のb- 酸化に関与しています。AMACRは脂質代謝に不可欠であり、正常な肝臓(肝細胞)、腎臓(尿細管上皮細胞)、胆嚢(上皮細胞)に発現しています。AMACRの発現は、肺(気管支上皮細胞)と結腸(表層上皮細胞)にも認められています。その発現は細胞質顆粒です。AMACRの発現は、肝細胞癌と腎癌でも認められます。これまでの研究で、AMACRがさまざまな結腸癌(高、中、低分化型)にも発現しており、前立腺癌で過剰発現していることが明らかになっています。
