Dr Ifeoma Ijei on the importance of leading by example for the new generation of pathologists

"I would say that I was drawn into the profession by one of my professors. I remember as an undergraduate, when I attended her lectures--female, by the way--she had this exuberance, she was so excited about what she taught, and it stayed with me. You lead by example, not just by words. By the time that they realize that you have invested in them, by the time you encourage them, you share your experiences with them, you give them better guidance, you have an open door policy that enables them to ask questions, you know make inquiries, get clarifications on just what your career needs, I think it will serve to increase our recruitment in pathology."
