Features
Speed That Scales: High-Sustained Throughput
Speed is only valuable when it is consistently maintained under heavy laboratory volume. The Aperio GT Elite scanner utilizes optimized mechanical paths, two-way slide scanning mechanics, and rapid stage movement to drive continuous throughput.
- * Scan Speed: 22 seconds per slide (15mm x 15mm tissue area at 40x magnification).
- * Sustained Output: 103 slides per hour continuously.
- * Rapid Stage Mechanics: Dual-direction scanning reduces non-productive optical head travel time.
Intelligence That Automates: SmartScan™ Technology
Manual slide adjustment and batch sorting slow down operations and introduce human error. **SmartScan™ technology** internalizes workflow decision-making at the individual slide level.
- * Barcode-Driven Execution: Reads 1D and 2D barcode symbologies to pull slide metadata automatically.
- * Dynamic Template Assignment: Applies preset scan parameters based on tissue type, stain intensity, or protocol requirements without manual sorting.
- * Mixed-Batch Processing: Simultaneously load different tissue types across the 15-rack carousel without reconfiguring scanner settings.
Certainty That Eliminates Rework: Automated Quality Control
Diagnostic confidence requires absolute image consistency across diverse staining protocols and tissue thicknesses.
- * Automated Calibration: The system maintains auto-calibration routines per slide, ensuring focus across variable tissue areas.
- * Aperio iQC™ Integration (Optional): AI-powered real-time quality control detects histological artifacts, coverslip boundaries, and focus defects during scanning.
- * Immediate Corrective Action: Automated quality alerts flag slides for instant technician review before slides leave the digital processing stream.

The Aperio GT Elite achieves a sustained throughput of 103 slides per hour at 40x magnification for a standard 15mm x 15mm tissue area. Individual tissue scans take 22 seconds, and the system holds up to 450 slides across 15 racks with continuous loading capabilities.
SmartScan™ technology reads 1D and 2D slide barcodes to extract metadata and automatically apply predefined scan parameters. This allows lab staff to scan mixed batches of routine H&E, IHC, and special stains together without pre-sorting slides or manually reconfiguring settings.
Yes. The Aperio GT Elite uses slide racks that are directly compatible with the Leica HistoCore SPECTRA Workstation (Stainer & Coverslipper). Racks can be moved directly from coverslipping into the GT Elite without re-racking slides.
The Aperio GT Elite includes Manual Scan functionality, allowing histotechnicians to manually select scan areas and adjust focus points for challenging tissue samples, such as small fragments or faintly stained IHC slides. Additionally, Z-Stacking and Extended Focus features capture thick tissues across multiple focal planes while minimizing final storage file sizes.
The Aperio GT Elite exports digital slides in native DICOM and standard .svs file formats. It supports HL7 communication for LIS/PACS integration and connects seamlessly with Aperio HALO AP image management software and third-party AI analytical tools.
The SAM server provides centralized IT management and comprehensive security controls (including encrypted transmission and role-based login). Equipped with dual 10GB network interface cards, SAM allows IT teams to monitor and configure multiple GT Elite scanners across hub-and-spoke laboratory networks from a single dashboard.
