The Department of Clinical Haematology and Blood Transfusion is a fully accredited clinical laboratory, which offers a comprehensive analytical, interpretive and consultative service. Clinical follow-up is instigated when necessary. Most tests are performed daily and reported the same day. Significantly abnormal results are reported by telephone or fax.

Although antibodies to CD11c have been available since the mid-1980s, the new antibody 5D11 is the first to recognise a formalin-resistant epitope.
