CytoVision Cytogenetics

CytoVision Automated Cytogenetics Platform

CytoVision Version 7.5 released

Leica Biosystems is proud to introduce its newest CytoVision release, now making it even easier to bring your FISH workflow out of the darkroom and into the light. With exciting new features to improve turnaround time and ergonomics, CytoVision 7.5 provides the tools you need to go digital with your FISH analysis.

New Tools for CytoVision Users

Dual Reader Workflow seamlessly transfers your existing microscope-based dual reader workflow to on-screen analysis, while maintaining the built-In quality control of producing two sets of unique results per test.
Fluorochrome Calibration Utility eliminates the effect of bright background auto-fluorescence, removing uninformative data and improving signal detection.
Metaphase QC Tool reduces turnaround time for specimens with low mitotic indices (MI), while enabling long term trending of MI to improve your laboratory efficiency.
Enhanced Signal Detection improves accuracy for assays that regularly produce signals of variable size and intensity.

Leica Biosystems and Mayo Clinic Collaborate on Future of Cytogenetics Imaging

NUSSLOCH, GERMANY, December 1st, 2014 – Leica Biosystems and Mayo Clinic’s Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology announced today a collaboration to develop the next generation of cytogenetics imaging software. The new tool will optimize software workflow and improve the overall user experience for cytogenetics imaging technicians.

The two organizations intend to help cytogenetics laboratories effectively process increased case loads. Their solution will reduce manual steps in the imaging process through paperless workflow. It will also pioneer secure remote case access, which will enable flexible on- and off-shoring of case reviews.

“Our goal is to develop the fastest and most accurate cytogenetic information tool to enhance patient care,” said Patricia Greipp, D.O., co-laboratory director of the Mayo Clinic Cytogenetics Laboratory. “Mayo Clinic now has the opportunity to incorporate its expertise within an imaging solution from Leica that we feel will produce the most sophisticated and efficient cytogenetics analysis tool for the modern cytogenetics laboratory.”

Physicians and allied health staff from the Mayo Clinic will provide clinical expertise throughout the collaboration with Leica. The Mayo Cytogenetics Laboratory handles more than 80,000 cases each year and is growing.

“Laboratory consolidation and a decreasing population of cytogenetics technicians are driving increasing caseloads and productivity challenges for cytogenetics laboratories,” said Donal O’Shea, Leica Biosystems Vice President of Clinical Microscopy Applications. “They need software that increases throughput and improves case turnaround time. Mayo Clinic is the gold standard for clinical practice. We feel that this collaboration will enable us to optimize our future-state workflows for improved patient experience and minimized wait times.”

Earlier this year, Mayo Clinic selected Leica Biosystems to fully renew the health care organization’s cytogenetics imaging equipment. Key selection criteria included responsiveness to Mayo’s requirements, automated scanning with multi-operator environment support, and a high-quality service offering.

Mayo Clinic has a financial interest in the technology development referenced in this news release.

CytoVision Version 7.3

CytoVision Version 7.3 released

CytoVision Version 7.3 released

Leica Biosystems is pleased to announce the release of CytoVision Version 7.3. Version 7.3 builds on the improvements to cellular FISH scanning and analysis tools introduced in Version 7.2 with new Tissue FISH scanning, capture and analysis tools for FISH paraffin embedded tissue sections.

Cytogenetics laboratories are increasingly expanding their capabilities beyond traditional Karyotyping into performing FISH based assays and supporting pathology with the technical analysis of tissue FISH slides.

CytoVision version 7.3 offers new levels of flexibility, scalability and accuracy of analysis. The CytoVision platform was the first to offer high throughput metaphase scanning and analysis by combining our expertise in robotics with the best image quality and analysis tools.

Why upgrade to CytoVision 7.3?

  • CytoVision version 7.3 Tissue FISH module is flexible; from fully automated workflows to manually directed capture and analysis.
  • Only CytoVision allows metaphases for Karyotyping, interphase Spot scoring and tissue FISH samples to be combined in a single unattended scanning session.
  • Works the way you want to with a choice of 3 different workflows for Tissue FISH

    • Fully automated – detects areas etched by a pathologist, optimises scan area, classifies and scores cells ready for review and report.
    • Semi automated – a low power overview scan is shown on-screen for the user to define capture areas on the slide. The slide is then captured and cells classified and scored.
    • Manual capture – for complete control

  • Proprietary Adaptive Image Processing algorithms are used to classify cells based on user defined morphology. Cells that meet the classification are captured and displayed as frames ready for manual or automatic scoring.
  • New Report Tool – reports are now only a few clicks away, cells, scores, pie charts and case details can be easily added to your labs own report templates.
  • Multisession scoring – CytoVision 7.3 now allows 2 users to score the same case independently then reach a consensus score based on the scores of the 2 sessions and their average.
